  11.        release notes, please refer to those release notes for

  21.        Other problems that we have found specific to the SGI
  22.        release that may also exist in other releases are as

  25.           +o While Netscape documents how to eliminate the use of a
  26.             disk cache by setting the cache size to zero, Java,
  27.             JavaScript, and Plugins all need local cache files in
  28.             order to function properly.  A zero size cache will
  29.             cause the browser to crash periodically when running.
  30.             The workaround is simply to not specify a zero size
  31.             disk and/or memory cache, a one meg cache is enough to
  32.             work around this problem.

  34.           +o When you try to play a movie from a Web page, you may
  35.             see this error:

  53.             dialog box telling you that a lock file exists.  If you

  57.             multiple instances of the browser for a single user due
  58.             to lock contention with the bookmarks file, cache, and

  79.           +o When using U of W IMAP server and the IMAP server is
  80.             configured to "Show only subscribed folders" and the
  81.             behavior for deleted messages is set to move them to
  82.             the Trash folder, you can't delete or rename any IMAP
  83.             mail folders.  The workarounds are to unset the
  84.             preference for "Show only subscribed folders" or
  85.             delete/rename the folders manually on the IMAP server.

  87.           +o When using U of W IMAP server and the IMAP server is
  88.             not configured to "Show only subscribed folders", every
  89.             time you restart netscape, the message count is lost
  90.             for all subfolders that are three or more levels deep

  95.           +o If you set your Forward mail preference to "Forward As
  96.             Inline", your signature will not be included in the
  97.             composition even though you have specified a signature
  98.             file in your Identity preferences, and the signature

  101.           +o Dragging a message from your default IMAP server to
  102.             your local mail copies the message instead of moving
  103.             it.  Dragging a message from your default IMAP server
  104.             to your other IMAP servers does not work at all.

  106.           +o Several of the shortcuts do not work like CTRL+SHIFT-F
  107.             (for Find on Internet) though they do work off the menu
  108.             bar.

  110.           +o Due to some problems in the cache, some HTML pages may
  111.             not display properly.  To fix the display try hitting
  112.             the "Reload" button or hold down the "Shift-key" and
  113.             press the "Reload" button to force the reload from the
  114.             server.  Usually this will cause the page to display
  115.             properly.

  117.           +o The "Guide" menu and several other buttons are
  118.             initialized to access the most current version of these
  119.             documents from Netscape Communications Corporation's
  120.             World Wide Web site.  If you can not access these
  121.             sites, make sure that you are not sitting behind a
  122.             firewall.  Contact your systems administrator for more
  123.             information on firewalls and how to configure the
  124.             browser to get thru the firewall.  If your machine is

  143.           +o If your system is configured for a Japanese environment
  144.             the Xt text entry widget may not function properly.

  150.           +o If when navigating the web you download an image or
  151.             movie and it brings up a save dialog, make sure that
  152.             your system preferences for the location of the mailcap
  153.             and mime.types files are the correct ones.  Very old
  154.             Netscape Navigator beta images available on the network
  155.             saved preferences for the location of the mailcap and
  156.             mime.types files as "/usr/local/lib/mosaic".  This is
  157.             the incorrect location and will cause several players
  158.             not to run properly.  User's must verify that the
  159.             system defaults for the mailcap and mime.types files
  160.             are pointing to "/var/netscape/communicator".  Making
  161.             this change will most likely cause the player to
  162.             function properly.

  164.           +o If when viewing images using the external imgview
  165.             viewer you get an error dialog saying it can't open a
  166.             file "-nofork" then you have an older version of the
  167.             ImageTools.  You will need to up upgrade to IL version
  168.             3.1 or later.  This product is available on SGI's
  169.             software download site on the web.
  170.  
  171.           +o There are some cases of DNS lookup when the separate
  172.             dns_helper application isn't used.  In these cases a
  173.             failed DNS lookup will hang the rest of the application
  174.             waiting for a timeout from the lookup.
  175.  
  176.           +o Using arrow keys in the compose window's pulldown menu
  177.             will cause a crash.
  178.  
  179.           +o There are still a few times when the mail summary file
  180.             will get corrupted and launching Communicator to read
  181.             mail will crash.  In these cases it's best to remove
  182.             the $HOME/nsmail/.*.summary file and let the mail
  183.             client recreate the summary files.  For the most part
  184.             this is fixed in 4.51 but if the summary file is
  185.             already corrupted then it may cause a crash.

  187.           +o When mouse dragging over the pulldown bookmarks menu,
  188.             the line separators will sometimes vanish and repaint
  189.             themselves.

  207.             the reader starts slowing down.

  210.             Message Center but the Unix shell instead, then
  211.             Netscape won't see these new folders.  Either always
  212.             use the Message Center to create mail folders or use
  213.             the script /var/netscape/communicator/fix_nsmailfdir to
  214.             fix the mail folder periodically.

  216.           +o If you are on a slow network link like a PPP connection
  217.             and have the Mail window open and your link goes down,
  218.             Communicator can't recover from the disconnect and
  219.             hangs.

  221.           +o If your ~/.netscape/preferences.js file becomes
  222.             corrupted then Communicator may crash on startup.  Look
  223.             at that file and verify that all directives are on a
  224.             single line with no newlines in any ()'s.

  226.           +o When using U of W IMAP server, clicking the Stop button
  227.             to interrupt the transfer of a mail attachment will
  228.             cause the IMAP server process to die.  The next time
  229.             you click on Get Msg to retrieve new mail, the IMAP
  230.             server process will restart, but message status changes
  231.             to your folder since the last time the folder was
  232.             updated will become lost; deleted messages will come
  233.             back, read messages will become unread, etc.
  234.  
  235.           +o Some Netscape plugins may cause corruption of the
  236.             $HOME/.netscape/plugin-list.  Look at the URL
  237.             about:plugins to see which plugin might have corrupted
  238.             the plugin list.  To workaround the problem, try
  239.             removing the plugin and the $HOME/.netscape/plugin-
  240.             list, start up Netscape and verify that the plugin-list
  241.             file isn't corrupted, then reload the plugin and
  242.             restart Netscape.

  244.           +o If the user's home directory is NFS mounted from
  245.             another machine and the user logs out, the client
  246.             process may not get killed and may need to be killed by
  247.             hand.

  249.           +o None of the Composer plug-ins included with Netscape
  250.             Composer are localized for the languages included in
  251.             this version so the menus show up as:

  273.             is used in a CGI web page.  Once text is entered into
  274.             the text field that causes scroll bars to be rendered,
  275.             clicking inside and outside the browser window
  276.             repeatedly will trigger the memory leak and cause the
  277.             browser to grow uncontrollably.
